Standing Committees
Along with the elected Board of Directors,
the following Committees and their Chairs are responsible for
shaping the present and future of the organization. Each
year, we call upon our members to serve as Standing Committee Chairs and
Members to both plan and execute our highest profile initiatives
including the ADDY Awards, professional and social programs,
strategic partnerships, government relations, and more. Our
Standing Committees also give back to the community by spearheading
public service campaigns and by working with regional
educational institutions in providing mentoring and scholarship
programs to the next generation of advertising professionals.
Standing Committee members are the lifeblood of the
organization and their contributions are recognized as such.
Chairing or joining one of the AAF-Orlando committees is an
exceptional opportunity to contribute or sharpen your skills and to
develop relationships with like-minded professionals who share your
enthusiasm for the advertising industry.

Duties & Responsibilities for a Standing Committee Chair
-
Chairs must
be appointed by the AAF-Orlando President and approved by the
Board of Directors.
-
Appoint
enough committee members to manage all aspects of the
committee's objectives.
-
Lead the
committee and guide its direction towards realizing those goals
and objectives
-
Oversee and
manage the work, deadlines and responsibilities of committee
members.
-
Manage the
budget allowances allocated for the committee.
-
Employ fiscal
responsibility to spending and income decisions.
-
Secure the
approval of the board for all anticipated expenses before
entering into any agreements or arrangements.
-
Attend all
scheduled board meetings and report the status of the
committee's accomplishments and action plans.

ADDY® Awards

ADDY® Awards
Planning (Co-Chair:
Amy Bunn)
The ADDY ® Awards
is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative
competition, attracting more than 60,000 entries annually. Conducted
by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the ADDYS recognize
and reward creative excellence in all forms of advertising. The
competition is divided into three levels of judging but it all
starts at the local level. Winners of local competitions are
forwarded to compete against district winners; district winners are
then forwarded to compete in the national competition. Our ADDY®
Planning Committee is responsible for planning and executing the
call-to-entries process and the awards ceremony for the local
Orlando competition, as well as forwarding winners to district. |

Communications

The
Communications Committee is responsible for keeping our members
informed about upcoming events, programs, special functions and
general news using the 4th District AAF database e-mail
application or other means when necessary. |

Multi-Cultural Initiatives
(Chair:
Kevin Austin)
The
Multi-Cultural and Diversity Initiatives Committee promotes the
importance of ethnic diversity and multi-cultural initiatives within
AAF-Orlando and the local advertising industry. The committee will
identify opportunities for AAF-Orlando to expand their reach and
value to more diverse markets, industries and members and encourage
involvement and membership of diverse groups within AAF-Orlando. |

Education &
Scholarships (Chair:
Tiffany Sanders)
The Education & Scholarships
Committee serves as a resource for area colleges and universities
through events such as the Student ADDY awards, educational tours,
seminars, portfolio reviews, and mentoring opportunities. The
committee will also assist with the screening of scholarship
candidates. Volunteers are needed year-round for this committee. |

Government Relations

The Government
Relations Committee is charged with keeping up on the latest
regulations and proposed changes that can affect our industry and is
a priority to our organization. This committee monitors legislative
activity affecting the advertising industry, and lobbies for
positive change. The committee works in conjunction with activities
of AAF District 4 and AAF National Headquarters. |

Membership

The Membership
Committee is dedicated to growing the AAF-Orlando with on-going
recruitment efforts throughout the Orlando advertising community
while ensuring that current members are getting the most out of
their membership. This committee works in concert with all the
other AAF-Orlando committees, as it is also responsible for creating
and producing updated membership recruitment and promotional
materials. |

Programs & Events

Celeste Thomas)
The Programs
& Events Committee is charged with providing social, educational and
networking opportunities for AAF-Orlando members by offering
speakers that foster actively interested members, well attended
meetings and membership growth. In addition, the committee creates
and implements various social events and educational programs.
These programs are intended to enhance the knowledge advertising
professionals about the industry. The committee will also seek out
partnerships with other industry-related organizations in Orlando to
provide additional exposure to speakers and seminars. |

Historian (Chair:
Patrick Wellman)
The Historian
Committee collects and maintains any documents or publications of
potential future interest to AAF-Orlando. The Historian Committee
also archives the entries submitted into the National Club
Achievement Competition. Additionally, the Historian Committee
captures important moments, events, programs and meetings through
pictures and video which are later archived and published on the AAF-Orlando
web site. |

Marketing & Public Relations

Open Position)
The Marketing &
Public Relations Committee works with the local media to generate
press and exposure for the AAF-Orlando with the goal of enhancing
the club’s image within the Orlando business community while
cultivating membership prospects. The committee will also oversee
AAF-Orlando branding efforts both in print and online; works to
develop marketing materials/campaigns promoting the club. |

Socials

Stacey Barabe)
The Social
Committees identifies and plans social events for all demographics
of the federation by investigating and securing potential locations
to host special events. In addition, the Socials Committee oversees
all creative for event materials and publicity for each event. The
purpose of these socials is to provide members and prospects
networking and deepen their relationships within the federation. |

Sponsorships

The Sponsorships
Committee recommends and solicits sponsorship programs for the
various events of AAF-Orlando. The committee will define levels of
sponsorships, work with individual event committees on sponsorship
efforts, and explore sustaining sponsorships for AAF-Orlando. In
addition, the committee will develop and implement strategies for
attracting new sponsors, solicit targeted sponsorships and ensure
sponsor benefits are provided and sponsors are satisfied with their
participation; develops sponsor "thank you" initiatives. |

Strategic Partnerships
(Chair:
Dione Moxley)
The Strategic
Partnerships Committee’s role is to maintain an open line of
communication between all other non-profit community and industry
organizations within the local market. The objective is to share
resources and explore opportunities to increase each respective
organization’s value and member benefits by allowing members of one
organization access to other organizations that are part of the
strategic partnership relationship. From time to time, the
Strategic Partnership Committee will seek out opportunities to
combine events, activities, socials and programs of mutual interest
in an attempt to increase overall attendance and participation with
renegotiated revenue splits. The purpose of the Strategic
Partnerships Committee is to foster relationships with organizations
that share mutual goals and values thus creating a stronger and more
unified coalition to address the diverse needs of the local
community. |

Web & Interactive Services

Sharon Swendner)
The Web &
Interactive Services Committee ensures that information on the AAF-Orlando
website is current and serves not only as a portal for current and
prospective AAF-Orlando members but also as a source of revenue.
The committee also improves the use of interactive tools and
services. |

Public Service
(Chair:
Joseph Juriga)
The Public Service Committee will research, develop and deliver projects that effectively use advertising techniques to support local, regional and/or national programs on behalf of public interest and/or community betterment. Public service campaigns contribute greatly to the overall enhancement of advertising’s image. These activities make the public more aware of the tremendous contribution made by advertising professionals to the local community. This awareness is so important in an era when the advertising industry is under attack. |

Ad 2 Orlando
Ad 2 Orlando is the young professionals division of the American Advertising Federation-Orlando. Its membership is exclusive to individuals ages 18 to 32 and exists to address the needs of young people in the advertising industry. Ad 2 Orlando is also affiliated with other Ad 2 chapters nationwide, whose members are employed, or interested in, advertising, marketing and public relations. Its organizational goal is to create future leaders through educational, leadership development and networking programs while mentoring students and annually providing advertising and public relations support to a non-profit organization in the community.Ad 2 Orlando is part of the Fourth District American Advertising Federation which includes all AAF
chapters throughout Florida and the Caribbean.
AAF is a national organization with a presence in Washington D.C. that represents over 50,000 advertising professionals to promote and defend advertising interests and protect your ability to do business. AAF also makes education, scholarships and diversity a priority in the industry.
Food For Thought: The “original” Ad 2 division was launched in 1947, as a way for young soldiers returning from World War II to get into the advertising field.

4th District Annual Conference
Planning (Chair:
Open Position)
After 4 years,
the 4th District Annual Conference returns to Orlando in
May 2009. Hosted by AAF-Orlando and conducted by the 4th
District American Advertising Federation (4AAF), the conference
unites delegates from all 25 federations which make up the 4th
District. The agenda is filled District Board Meetings, educational
guest speakers and professional development workshops that will
provide you with helpful tools to maximize your position on the
Board or Standing Committee. The conference ends with the 4th
District AAF ADDY® Awards Gala. The 4th District Annual
Conference Planning Committee is responsible for planning and
executing every aspect of this event from the concept and venue
acquisition to final production. |

Silver Medal Award Selection

Larry Meador)
The Silver Medal Award Selection Committee plans, executes and
promotes the Silver Medal Award Program. The Silver Medal
Award recognizes men and women who have made outstanding
contributions to advertising and their community. Every year, this
committee is chaired by the Immediate Past President and the current
Silver Medal recipient. |
